Review Process:

​

The ESLJ receives a high volume of excellent submissions. Each piece is first reviewed by two Pre-Readers, who determine whether the piece will move on to the formal editing stage. If the piece is passed through by the Pre-Readers, it is then read by two Editors who work together to make the final decision as to whether the piece is approved. If so, the Editors work together with the author to edit the piece and prepare it for publication. The rigorous nature of our review process allows us to highlight excellent writing and work with the authors to bring each article to its full potential.

In the editing process, the first Editor will work together with the author to get the piece to a publishable standard (including editing for grammar, flow, readability, and structure).

Dear Reader,

 

The Edinburgh Student Literary Journal emerged as a passion project in conjunction with the UoE Literature Society during Summer 2020 when I realised that undergraduates often lack clear and accessible route through which to engage with academic publishing and share their voices. With this need in mind, and with the support of my wonderful committee, the journal was born. I'm so thankful for the engagement from the community and all the support that has been offered to our nascent publication.

I'm so proud and privileged to have served as Editor in Chief and I can only hope that the journal becomes a vibrant part of the Edinburgh literary community. Thank you to our readers for listening to these incredible academic voices; thank you to the authors for trusting us with their creations; and, above all, thank you to my Editorial Board. Without you all, there would be no journal. You are more than I could have asked for.
